hey all, i just got me a new rod. it has rings instead of reel seat. i am having trouble aligning it perfects to the first guide. any tips or tricks to make it perfect?

just match up the rings with the rings on the rod and carefully attach the reel to it, keeping the rings in place, some people tape the reel onto the rings, i don't because i like to take my reel of after I'm done using it, but thats just me.

i can't just put my reel into the metal seats and keep turning it. it will destroy my reel and scratch it. so i was looking for easier solution to help it rotate without damaging the reel. there is always more way than one to do something.

electrical tape on the reel, slide rings over it? would create a tighter seal as well as saving the reel. I dont know though, I like a reel seat as you know

lol the guy that has an answer to everything float relate for steelhead can't figure out how to align his reel............

i was trying to find an easy way to measure it, so i dont have to eye it ever two seconds. was trying to save time. i know enough to know how you are suppose to do it. wanted some sort of tip to save time. i posted this exact question on a different site and the answer were 100% different than here. there is always tips and tricks to do everything, to make it easier. i am sure pretty idiot proof just to say put reel on, move it. oh really?! i couldn't of guessed that much myself.

Sad isnt it..

Well if you ask me put the reel on perfectly then pull the lineup till it touches the rod handle and once it does trace it so now when er you go you have a perfect mark to go by or do the same for the reel seat

Alright pal get a metre stick or any straight edge and a pencil. Line up one edge with the middle of the first guide to the middle of your cork where the reel will sit. Mark this spot with a pencil lightly, or sharpie if you plan on taking your reel off occasionally. Then mark a light pencil mark or sharpie if u dont care about a little mark on the middle part of the front of your reel foot and simply match the marks, slide the bottom guide on, then the top, the electrical tape to anchor. If it isnt perfect its going to be pretty damn close. Just eye it to the best of your own judgement. Doesn't have to be 100% perfect, this method will get you to at least 95. Hopefully this helps ya out fella.

Thanks you, someone that knows how to help properly. i did figure out something similar, took a while by eye, but i pencilled the edge of the the seat on the cork and helped a ton. now i can go up or down as i please. but your method seems easier also. even thought of attaching a string to back of the first guide and bring it down to the butt cap should roughly tell me where centre is also.
