I dont think this has been done yet...

I think it would be beneficial...(for me at least) if we can report on different marinas that offer boat rentals ... the lakes that they are on.. and the prices they charge.

I will start....

Few weeks back i went to lake simcoe and rented a pontoon from Lake Simcoe Marine Ltd. www.lakesimcoemarine.com i found it to be quite pricey there.. however, the pontoon was not bad... nice friendly owners the pontoon had a live well and rod holders ... 200 dollars for full day .. NOT including gas and taxes.
15ft. aluminum boat is $125 for the day.. NOT including gas and taxes.
PS. Boating License required for this location... some places are not strict on this policy..

I also tried little lake the day before that...

small marina that was fair in price.. if i remember it was around 110 bucks for a pontoon for the whole day ... it covered gas... however Little Lake was not that great at all this year... there are sooo many weeds. Never seen a lake with so many weeds. 20hp motor on a 6 person pontoon.. needless to say we were getting stuck in weeds and going at a wheelchair pace.



Im looking to go out in the lake for some good fishing but hopefully you guys can help and find me cheaper rentals that are reputable. Cant afford to pay this much every time.

I bet if you paid a guy who owns a boat that kinda cash they'd be all over it. Last year I was on Lake Joseph and a dude there saw us fishing from the dock and said he'd let us use the boat if we left out drivers license and covered the gas. I gave him a 100 later that afternoon and he was tickled pink. Then again I don't own a fishing boat so maybe that's a rare exception. Every year we rent a different cottage and I see TONS of boats moored and not being used.

I do have my boat license/card though and wouldn't take a boat out if I didn't.

I own a 9.9 - just rent the boat. Usually in around $20 for a day, or $125 for a week. The money's in the motor. Most lodges have boats you can rent.

Dude I rented a 2 seat kayak and it was 40 bucks an HOUR! We let the kids walk out into GB and they humped it all the way to this little island, we knew they'd be gassed so we rented the stupid thing just for peace of mind and sorta towed them back.

I think this thread has great potential. :smile:

I assume some of these marinas are making a killing.... i never heard of bringing your own motor though.

But for the most part i believe boat renting prices have gone up quite alot since 10 years ago.. i remember it use to be around 50-60 bucks a day.. now its like minimum 100 for a aluminum 14inch i think..

I take guys fishing for smallies (2 guys max) on my bass boat all the time... I don't event charge close that (200$ for the pontoon you mentioned)
I usually charge for a tank of gas 140$ and I put guys on fish all day!

This is a great thread, thanks for starting it. When OFF is upgraded I hope this thread will be saved for new section.
All the lakes are low this year, I been on Little Lake and yeah it's not deep and all weedy. Best part of OFF is that it brings people who love to go fishing together. Hope you can meet up with other members with boats and strike up a long lasting friendship and share your successful fishing.

Oh man I'm looking for a boat to rent , only getting my boat purchase next summer, bought too many toys this summer quads ect.
I'm looking to rent a boat either ion lake o or towards own sound area. Please pm me, either by day or for a week if it has a trailer to pull around. Different lakes. Would rather be towards Owen sound area because that's where my house is and have safe storage, not like in Toronto

Whether or not a marina is strict on licenses, can't you still get slapped with a hefty fine if you are caught out on the water without one?

I wouldn't chance it. If boating is something that you are interested it doing then you should just suck it up and get a license. It's easy, inexpensive and it is good for life.

...there is a magazine for people willing to trade cottages for the summer, rent them out.... there should be a website or publication that those needing a boat can access to rent it for a day/week. It's so true eh, all those cottage boats of assorted sizes sitting idle between weekends if not longer. Call it Boat Renter!

i rarely travel so far north

i did come across port perry marina ... the prices are listed on the site.. a boat license is NOT required to rent their boat.. but you do have to buy insurance http://www.portperrymarina.ca/Home/MarinaLakefrontLocation/Rentals.aspx

looks like its only worth it if you have a few friends to divide the costs with..

I think marina and lodge owners can do a dockside test with you to allow for legal rentals without boater certification.
As for so far up north, I come from the Sudbury Region but live in Southern Ontario. Fishing? Well worth the couple of extra hours in the car, especially if you're going for a week or two.

I guess it's only select places then. I was up at a lodge on the French the other weekend and they required a pleasure craft operating card from anyone wishing to rent and operate a boat.

It's at the discretion of the lodge owner. Renters need to sign a waiver clearing the lodge from liability and acknowledging the test was completed, however the owner is still assuming a certain amount of risk, and needs proper insurance to cover that.

I rent boats on Rice Lake and have considerable experience with renters with the Boat Operator's Cards and those without. With the latter we take them through the 15 point check list as described on the Boater Exam website. Personally, I would much rather be out fishing with a guy who completed the checklist that morning than someone who got the card on the Internet 5 years ago and has never been in a boat in their life. I have had more problems with Card holders than the checklist group. Which would you remember best, a test taken 5 years or a detailed checklist taken that morning?
