Recently purchased a 12' aluminum boat on a commercial trailer without any ownership. The seller warned me and it was just a little cash deal in order to get the boat home. $100 total, pretty much doing him a favour and getting it off his driveway for the winter.

My problem is, because this trailer has a VIN#, I cant get legal ownership of it and legally tow it. I know it's not stolen, the original owner just got rid of it off his cottage property.

Is there a way to get this under my name?
The MTO office keeps giving me long winded legal arguments about it. And I'd have to track down the original owner. But then it's still legally his property and he has the right to just take it from me..... Bla bla...

I just want to go fishing with it...

same as buying a car, go to the seller, get the paper work for the trailer and sign it over, or.....get rid of the vin number, tell the mto you built the trailer and get a plate for it

I second this. Only way to get it done without a huge hassle at the mto office
