bronte creek?

Ontario Fishing Forums

Help Support Ontario Fishing Forums:

The last three seasons at Bronte haven't been that great, the numbers being stocked have been reduced.
Can be good when there's not many people and plenty of room, but it gets 1/4 the fish compared to Credit or even the Lift Bridge.

so spring is better on bronte?

i find the river is almost dead in the spring, (only been down there few times) only get small trout,, but there are alot of them...

seen a few people night fishing under the bridge on monday... no salmon in the river yet....

Bronte sucks in the fall if you fish salmon, too many "fishermen", notice the quotation marks please. As someone already said it's a slaughter. I fish it quite often and we really need more COs down there. Notice also that there are no quotes around where I said I fish Bronte. I fish rainbows and browns there in the fall, and there is a way to do this without being near all the salmon snaggers and poachers.
There is a nice run of steelhead in the spring, I get them 2 - 15 lbs. Bronte is in a populated area and is heavily fished. You need to pick your areas and adapt your techniques to get them. Lastly in the lower river that has the season extended to the end of Dec. Dec. is a good month, not a lot of pressure and they are there. The only thing about that time of year is that one day you may catch 6 fish and the next day you may get a skunk.
All reports now are that the salmon are not moving up the river in any quantities yet, and I prefer the trout which follow the salmon to feed on their eggs. The weather needs to cool and some rain would help bring them into the river.
Feel free to PM me LogJam, maybe I can give you some tips or we could even get out together sometime and I could show you a few of my tricks.

Alfie.

Bronte's actually a decent place compared to most other streams. I would avoid Petro Canada park though. The farther up you go the better the fishing will be. It's a very large area.

went 0/3 at bronte yesterday, didnt have any of the fish on for very long as I was pretty rusty with the pin. By the time I had it figured out again I wasnt getting any hits.

The river was PACKED though, ive never seen it that busy, the water was so low that the fish were concentrated into only a few pools with a ton of guys fishing each pool. I saw a bunch of idiots trying to net salmon on my way out so I stood right beside them and reported them to the MNR while describing their clothing lol it was pretty funny. Not that they were going to get one anyways with their dinky net but they were ruining the fishing for everyone else.

If you see anyone doing anything illegal on the river just stop right beside them within hearing distance and call the MNR, they probably wont make it out but it will at least scare the people into stopping what they are doing. 877-847-7667. And the best information you can give the MNR is a vehicle description/location.

i went 0/0 today... but was still good to get out there. were a few people out there. seen a few fish....;-)

also seen one guy with his 2 kids, trying to snag the fish. not even trying to fish for them... i stayed to watch and see if he was gonna hook one or not. then after a bit i just could not take it anymore....
he was trying to get his kids to spot the fish and then he would try to snag them, i stopped fishing and said to the man.." what your doing is wrong.. what you are showing your children is wrong. as a concerned person of the public i cant just stand here well you fish like this..I hope the ministry comes and finds you."
then man almost poop his pants.... i dont think anyone has ever talked to him like that before... and he knew i was pissed right off...... i noticed as i walked away he had stopped fishing... i hope for ever...

but i do feel better for the fact i said something insted of just walking away.... ( i didnt have cell phone to call MNR)
i hope this will inspire other to atleast try to do something.. if anything tell other fhisermen/women about it...

sometimes its hard to pass by and not say anything when u see kinda stuff that goes on the rivers. I stopped approaching people long time ago cause of few close calls i had that almost led into fights. From now on i just call the MNR and hope they show up.

Good job you jerks who cut open the fish an leave it floating at the pier. Get a life. I will arrest you myself if I see or catch you doing this. If you don't want it, maybe yur dog will.
If they dont want it they should just suck it up and buy some roe. Big deal if they have to spend 5 bucks every time they go out, I do. If they cant afford it they should just stay home or use artificial roe or flies.

i completely understand. i was by myself when i said something to the one guy i seen yesterday, i was scared. but i just said what i had to say and walked away...
maybe it changed his way of thinking, maybe it did nothing but make him mad, either way, i feel better saying something then nothing at all...

but i really need to start taking a cell phone...

i hope if things ever got bad, that there are people that would help out if things got out of hand, eg.. fighting, pushing ect..
(help from the peace keepers of the river)
i know i sure as hell would help anyone in a bad situation for the right reasons...

tight lines~!

I'm going there this afternoon, and can hardly wait for the BS. I like many others like to scope out a good looking spot where a fish or two may be caught, without anyone else standing there. If someone else is enjoying their space, I'll say Hi! and move on. But what really makes my fn day nice and enjoyable is when I do happen to tie into a fish, rest assured some pepperoni smelling bastard will edge in on my exact spot, and when I need to step away from the waters edge to retie, they mooch my exact spot! Also like the floater clowns who move in, then start drifting right in front of you, while making out they're doing nothing wrong! Really love it when they constantly snap their line right in front of you...grrr. I appreciate the dimwits who tromp across the creek 10 feet above your hole too.

Won't be going back there for a few weeks. Too many inconsiderate idiots. I was fishing one hole, which was holding a fish, had my line right in the spot where it was holding, and some butt head comes splashing down the middle of the river, walks right into the hole exactly where the fish was, and within inches of my line. Unbelievable! Found another hole which was holding quite a few fish. Only one other guy on it, and he was about 50 ft away, so we weren't bothering him. I had a couple good takes, and misses, next thing I know A few guys come crashing in, and then get all their buddies to join them! Within minutes we we shoulder to shoulder with guys who all had to shout, and carry on jibberish conversations with one another non stop! One doofus even had a mooching rod, with a big weight on his line! Hmmmmmm. Needless to say the fish clammed right up when that bs started. Thanks guys!!! Typical Bronte bullshit! The amount off stripped female salmon laying all over the place, starting in the parking lot was quite disgusting, and pathetic. One of these days I wouldn't be surprised if that whole area gets closed to fishing.
