My son and myself went to Bronte pier last night @ 5 pm to toss cleos in hopes of catching our first female. We have caught a dozen or so males in the last couple of weeks. Talking to the folks fishing there had not been any fish caught during the day. On my first 7 casts I had 3 hits followed by jumps followed by the fish coming off and saying goodbye. The folks on the pier just looked at me shaking their heads!!! My son just laughed. It was quiet after that for about an hour when finally my son hooked up and landed a beautiful 25lb plump female. About 45 minutes later after listening to his abuse of my fishing ability i also hooked up and landed a SLIGHTLY BIGGER HEN. Any way during this time we saw 2 other fish landed both females. We now have enough roe for the rainbow season. Oh by the way it is his first time curing the eggs-I went home and had a beer.

Glad I went later and didn't have to shake my head at you!

I arrived shortly after 8pm and fished until just after 11pm and didn't see any fish landed... what sort of witchcraft are you using?

Congrats on the hens! I was at the Bronte Pier 'lighthouse' end last night between 7-9:30 pm and had one good hit without a good hookset. And, the guy next to me pulled out a large male. Apart from that it was quiet. What time were you at the pier?

Just been lucky I guess. Last 3 times down to Bronte we have caught fish when no one else has been catching- We walked off the pier @ 7.30 pm. Now that we have eggs we are going to hit the Nottawasaga as we hear there are some salmon and bows in.

Was the action on the 'lighthouse' side of the Pier or the 'darkside'? And was it out in the open water or the enclosed bay area?

We arrived @ about 5 pm and fished only till 7.30 as my son lives in Kitchener an HE was to prep the eggs. We were on the pier opposite the lighthouse in the middle. While we were there fish were rolling but very few jumping

2 hours 2 fish what a great ratio. Does the colour of the cleo matter, what were you using?
Thanks for the report.

We have had our best luck on green base black dot glow in the dark cleos. They seem to produce any time of day for us.

Got out this evening for some pier chucking. Saw roughly 4 landed. Didn't land any personally. Jointed sinking bright minnows seemed to be the ticket. Have fun!
