Just moved to burlington from Manitoba. I'm a big walleye fisherman but with bronte harbour so close I'm thinking about trying salmon fishing. I have a 20' aluminum fishing boat with a 150HP outboard. I just purchased some manual downriggers online and some down rigging rods as well as some trolling rods. Im looking for some advice on what I should be using for bait, lures, what depths the fish are at this time of year, trolling speeds etc. I'm a complete newbie to the salmon thing? As well i hear you can get lake trout out there too?

Well I think you are in for a surprise with the Salmon fishing at Bronte Creek and Burlington Harbour.

I have fished the area for nearly 10 years.

I will share all of my success stories and what worked and what was a complete bust.

The weather is starting to drop with rain.

The salmon will start to move into the bay in the next 2-3 weeks.

Timing is everything. If you are in the area, check the bay from 0700-0800. You will see them traveling in schools.

Once they are in the bay, a steady or significant rainfall will fill the creek. The run will begin at that point.

I'm from Brantford and cannot venture periodically out to Burlington. I need a spotter.

Let me know and I'll show you some ways to rig and catch salmon.

Welcome to OFF! You always have a shot at lakers, chinook and coho salmon, rainbow and brown trout. Glows spoons at night trolled around near the piers are a good bet.

Since I live close, I went for a walk at Bronte harbor about two days ago. For fun, I counted the number of guys/gals at both piers - 68. The most impressive - a young kind targeting SM and tossing a bright yellow spinner-bait. Landed two 16"-ers in less than half an hour. All I have to say is that kid is going to go far!
