So I've a noob to trout fishing. Thought I'd get that out there. I'm a little confused on the regulation for rainbow trout in the caledonia dam area. The limit is 2 rainbows but they out of season as it ends in September. Then another section of the reg say that caledonia has an extended season? So 2 rainbows are okay? And what's a chrome? Is it a nice silver rainbow?

An extended season would allow you to fish a section of the river up to December 31st...
Regular catch limits are in effect unless otherwise stated...
And yes, we sometimes refer to Rainbow Trout as "Chrome"...

No. 2 rainbows/chrome is not Ok. That area has a limit of one fish and it must be caught using a sportsmans license.

Thanks guys. I heard that its was different limits during the extended season but I want to check with you guys first. Better to check on the forum then with a CO who's asking why a have too many fish....

Don't forget to check the health warnings about how many fish you should actually be eating out of the body of water.

catch and release and you won't need to worry

Thanks Alfie, thank god ive never kept more than one there. I had no idea it had special limits, ive read up on the extended season but never noticed the special limits during the extended season. Ive seen so many guys keep three fish there during the extended season when I was a noob, havent seen it recently but if I see it again they'll get a mouthful thats for sure.

That's a good call Braedon. Now I need to do some checking myself ( not that I keep many fish.) The regulations in my 2012 summary state the 1 fish limit is in place for the extended season. Oct 1 to Dec 31. I have seen signs posted along the Grand that state this limit is in force throughout the open season. It has never affected me, as I have yet to land a 'bow in the Grand so I have never even been tempted to keep one. Knowing the regulations where ever you are is important and can keep you out of some hot water and costly situations. Besides being costly you could also lose your right to fish from what I understand

You guys keep those steelhead?????? I have never kept a single fish, and i have never bought a fish/ate a fish. It has always seemed a bit extra not-nice to eat spawning fish.

Just my 2 cents

I did mention that I don't keep many fish. I usually keep one hen every 2 or 3 years. It keeps me with some roe and a tasty feed.

braedon there is a link to the regulations on the main forum page on the right side. always good to know the regs in an area you plan to fish! make sure to check the extended seasons, and the exceptions for that body of water

Hey Nado. If you see someone with 3 Rainbows they are breaking the law. The limit on a sportsmans license is only 2 fish from the 4th Sat in Apr. til the end of Sept when it goes to 1.
I see so many people breaking the laws at Caledonia. I don't think I have been there in the last 3 years without calling the MNR tips line at least once.

Alfie.

Ya it was pretty bad, I didnt know about the tips line back then otherwise I would have called.
