Hey all,

Me and a couple buddies are looking to spend the better part of 2 days fishing Rice, and instead of driving back home that night we were hoping to find a camp site that we could just bunker down for the night at. Looking at the northern park of the lake, and we also need to rent a boat. Ideally from the camp grounds were staying at.

Anyone got any suggestions? I have been told about Serpants Mound, but the site says they are closed for the 2012/2013 season but has no other options or details.

hey, lots of info on rice from other im sure will come your way (ive seen threads about it already).

i was there a month ago, 3 nights, 4 days of fishing...Tyler Seguin was actually renting the boat beside us on the lake, (hockey player) for those who dont know...

anyhow...rice is one hell of a good spot...large mouth, walleye, yellow perch, black crappie - we caught all of them...mostly on a 3 inch yellow twister tail and a 3/8 oz jig with a small chunk of worm on the tip of the hook for scent/slightly weedless.

as long as you have the jig below the weeds, or working it just over the surface of them you will hammer bass at least.

i got 38 largies doing just that, 2 walleye and a handful of crappie by 10am the second day. drift fishing...found there was enough wind to move the boat along and just keep your line in the water and the engine off (which is great for saving money on gas - and a very effective way to fish and have your lines in the water most of the time).

whacky worms worked 4 inchers, as did a few mepps and panther martin spinners, size 2 and 3.

basically work the northern parts of the lake where there are lots of changes in depth/weeds and you will do well.

best of luck and like i said i saw a few other threads about rice that may have some more and better info...as this is only my second post on the site!

cheers

Thanks for the info buddy, yea I've been out on Rice a few times already. I'm more so looking for recommendations on a camp grounds/boat rental place. I use Whispering Pines for boat rentals for the day, but they dont have camp sites, just cottages. I'm only staying the one night so I'm hoping to find a camp site for a tent and rent a boat from them as well.

Back in highschool, buddy and I used to camp out on "Grape Island". A smaller island with a couple fire pits a couple km east from the marina in Bewdly. The island is on google maps if you want to check it out. It was crown land back in the 90s the last time we camped there. Assuming it still is. Get there early to make your claim.

Thanks for the advice people , got a site booked for tonight and a boat for the next two days! I'm way to excited to go fishing for 2 days lol.

I really hope we can find those bucket heads!

Golden beach or my favourite is south view cottages. Maureen is the owner and she is very fair with pricing.

Ended up going to a place called "Langs." boat rental was fair priced but the camp site was ridiculous. $50 a night for a patch of grass on the side yard to their house where people would randomly walk in and out of across our site. Plus we couldnt get ANYTHING to bite. 2 straight days of fishing sun up to sun down only got 3 smallies in total. Terrible outting!
