I know I am not the only one unsure about the rules governing camping out for opening day.

I did some research.

Camping is legal on crown land for free for up to 21 days.

I used the famous spot on the East. It is a conservation area. When I typed in the conservation area in the Conservation Area Guide, it says no camping.

Does that mean everyone that camps out is "facing the fear" illegally? My next question is, do MNR/Police tend to look the other way for the day?

I understand camping on private property (and even fishing) is illegal.

I am going to give the MNR a shout tomorrow, and will report my findings.

i don't think sleeping in your car is considered camping, i know last year was a nut house there, hell, first year i fished there, i followed an ambulance there cause someone slept with a propane heater in their bed camper

Conservation areas aren't really crown land. If your talking about the glen, or downtown port hope, then yes typically a blind eye is turned. Depending on wether or not they have a bylaw, you could be ticketed for said camping, or simply charged with trespassing in the absence of a bylaw. You are likely just to be told to leave. I don't think you'll have an issue, unless the town/ glen have had it. People have been camping out there for years!

Gt grab a tent man u walk far enougb into the bush no one will even know i have done it a million times

Everyone wants first dibs. The only people who have a problem with it are the ones who are late. I don't see why popo's would have a problem with a dude with his rod and his pin.

totally. I have camped near the 407 under bridges, to test tents and other goodies out before long trips--I have been spotted a few times with no recourse really, just don't make a fire..

that's the dilemma--if it doesn't say private--you can crash there without detection if you do it right

I plan on fishing midnight at my place lol....flash lighhts and glow in the dark spinners. Maybe camp out till early morning and hit up the creek nice and early

I have seen in port hope on cavan street people in thier camping trailers. I have also been told for that weekend it is LEGAL. There is a no camping sign but clearly states that you can camp for the 4th weekend in april.

Does anyone has actual expirence with this? Last thing I wanna do is be interupted from fishing while my trailer is being towed. That would be a serious toss up, not sure to stop fishing and save trailer or just keep fishing like nothg happend haha!

also wanted to ask, they say no fires. Is this no ground fires? I have an outdoor fireplace that has the wood and fire about 2' off the ground all 4 sides of the fire place are screened in so nothing lands out side as long as we have been using this.

I propose we set up the tents from this weekend until theopener......that, is how it will be in 10 years :))

if they see smoke you will be in trouble--no fires means anything that could possible spread and create a larger fire.

I can tell you from my bush party days that fires get you busted. Camped on a river for two days, the third day was colder, lit a fire instant police. Within 20 minutes my friends and I were asked to vacate the area immediately.
