Last winter for the first time I bought a couple of ice fishing rods at canadian tire not knowing how crappy they were. When I headed out yesterday my girlfriend likes to use them to catch pan fish, but a screw feel out and we couldnt find it. My brother laughed at me when I first bought them now I see why. Im not much for littering but I was so mad I just threw the rod overboard haha. So my advice to you is by name brand rods like shimano and stay away from garbage brands. Canadian Tire is only good for tackle like line and lures(limited selection).

Product review section for the new OFF. What was the brand of rods? You can also log into the CT website and write a product reivew there too. That's what I use before I'll take the chance on buying their junk. Even some of the brand name stuff is junk, according to some of the reviewers. I have no clue what you had bought, so a pic would be helpful, or the sku number at the very least the name of the rod.

i have a ht and fenwick ice rods from there and they hold up fine? would not waste money on the reels there though


for the future, don't buy rods if they have screws in them

Here you go guys. This is the worlds worst fishing rod. Actually I remember the first time I used it and the screw came out of the bailer. Its called a Zebco Solid Ice. It looked nice on the shelf when I bought it, but it looks even better at the bottom of the lake.

Even the most expensive equipment will malfunction. Keeping track and maintaning your equipment will help this sort of thing from happening. I have a ice rod and reel from CT and I prefer it over my good berkley one from a local fishing outfitter. Whom I would rather not mention, because I wouldnt like to give them the privlidge of free advertising.

it's fiberglass rod and not sensitive for icefishing but there is nothing wrong with it. the reels are junk in ct.

i'm sure if you gave it to someone they would of been happy to use it for whitefish or walleyes.

Thats why my brother started laughing and asked me if I was fishing for whales. This is going to be my second year ice fishing so you got to live and learn.

Ah ha Zebco=zero. It is on my list of crap to never ever buy again. Zebco=Quantum same crap. Better to use line off the spool it came from then to get one of those reels....lol. I'll be looking into a cheap ice rod soon. I'll stick to the better brands like Mitchell, Abu Garcia, Shimano, or Browning all reels I have had for years of flawless operation. Too bad you didn't save the rod, it's about the only good thing they make, maybe.

What is Zebco? Zero Effective Basically Crap Only?..........lol. Low end Diawa is just as bad. Better luck on your next ice rod.

Well I bought two of the famous Zebco rods. Ones at my place and the other is in the bottom of the lake. Ill check out the site and see whats best. Also heading to bait store on Tuesday so I will see then. Thanks

About the screws falling out. If u actually liked the rod Or yr gf did. I woulda used some lock tight n call it a day.

One thibg I found that you have to watch for at CTC are their So Called "Sale Prices".

A while back I Posted that they had the Pflueger President Spinning Reel "On Sale" at $59.99 "Regular" $89.99.

A lot of guys on here couldn't wait to get over there and get one!

Then (Don't tell anyone this) :unsure: a few weeks later I was on Bass Pro looking at Baitcasters. One of their "Best Sellers": popped up.

It was the Above Reel. EXCEPT ...... Their Regular Price was $49.99 To $59.99 (OOPS!!) There was alo Five Models to choose from all available in Right Or Left Handed, fom 4lb line to 12lb line capacity.

I do a fair amount of Woodwork and CTC sometimes have some Really Good Buys. NOT usually Power Tools.

I guess the Moral here is to do Your Homework or "Shopping Around" which is pretty easy today when you can usually sit at your Computer and do that.

Alo 3 or 4 others. Most of them reffered you to "Amazon's Site".. EHHHH!! The prices didn't match, neither did the names of the Lures. Or they send you to a Retail Site.

Yes. It's not a bad site to get some Information, BUT they hold themselves out to be some sort of a Professional Review Site. NOT!! In fact they are what I refer to as a "Click Through Site" and they make $$$$ every time someone does that.

Pics below will explain what I mean and save me a lot of Typing. ...LOL. :grin: :grin:

No offence taken. I had just googled "best ice fishing rod review" and not much came up. Yes CT customer reviews but no one had put in a revew yet. When I searched on the CT site for rods, all rods came up and no ice rods. Maybe my keywords were not right? Not sure, but thanks for checking it out. I hate those useless sites that rate the stores, those are pointless here in Canada. I sure hope the new OFF has a product review section.
