I've tried sight fishing on the Thames river north of London for carp - awesome! I use a fast action 4wt Sage (I spoiled myself) and plunk a fuzzy-fluffy-leggy-something in front of their nose and it works like a charm. I'm kind of embarassed to say that I think a carp, pound for pound, put up a better fight than a lot of other gamefish. Ian Collin James (I think that's the fellow) has a good website on carp fishing and fishing in that area in general. Similarly, I lobbed muddlers for for catfish at dusk in some small drainage ponds in the Niagara Region. Who knew catfish were surface predators? I didn't, especially when expecting a largemouth! That video gets me going at about 6:13 when he hooks in. The person on the video camera does a pretty good job of filming the cast as it rolls forward.
Thanks for the post.
