Has anyone tried this? Other than a few trips to niagara for some big game fish....This is probably what i will do to start off 2013.

Careful fishing certain river systems before trout opener.

I remember as a kid getting kicked off the river by an MNR Officer early one April. Even though we were just sucker fishing. The section of river we were fishing was well upstream and beyond a couple dams, but we got the boot still.

They can't fine or punish, but they can tell you to leave if they feel like it.

Where are you based?

I'm in GTA...markham to be specific but i can drive anywhere in GTA. I know Milne freezes so it's a no go there. Most probably mouth of Rouge is the best but I don't know if Carp will be there during the winter.

I am downtown T.O. and I will be fishing deeper water than normal around the river mouths where they dont freeze. Last year was great as there was no ice at all, but this year there is already significant build up on the shallow areas. If the temps pick up enough, theres a few harbour locations that will produce. Check with Michaelangelo at ontarioshorefishing forums for a few pointers on Markham, I know he fishes Carp in quite a few of the storm ponds, but I don't know what the deal is once they freeze over.

Most probably do the same thing. mouths of rivers. I always hit a GTA marina when i have time and i know there are tons of carp there but the last week of '12, i don't think they're there as the water is clear and have been spotting a vast amount of pike lurking the area. It seems that when pikes are around, carp tend to not hang around. the same thing i notice at an East Trib Marina. I won't be hitting streams as I use trout bait and don't want MNR to take it the wrong way. I've had success on carp using trout pellets.
