Do spincasting and baitcasting reels use the same rod? I know they are both top mounted but are there any differences?

Of note, a spincast reel is the closed face, thumb button spin reel.

Thanks.

If by top mounted you mean the reel faces up? I would say not truee. All my spin cast rods have the reels on the bottom. That is the way I have always fished. I know I have seen some witht he reel on top but it may be a comfy thing.

never had a spincast setup myself but from the one i've seen in the store, the spincast rods are very short and flexible, the combo's are suitable more for ultra light fishing.

i think you're thinking of spinning reel, which is different than spincast

Okay, so what is the difference than between spinning reel and spincast?? I always assumed it was the same thing before :s lol

a Spincast reel is enclosed, and has a release button that you push/hold to engage, then release as you cast. It's an older style reel (although there are new models as well). It sits on top of the rod like a baitcaster, but is way more unsophisticated than a baitcasting reel

Interesting Q but why? Are you looking to get a baitcaster and put it on a spincast rod? Most if not all (that I have ever seen atleast) are a kids ultra ligh rod. Most people using a baitcaster are using it for a reason, like pitching heavy slop with jigs for bass or big musky baits. Those rod's would blow up in a second if that was the case of a spincasting rod used with a biatcaster reel. Just asking...

Yeppers, very good points.

I've only really seen them used for small walleye, crappie and other panfish. There basically useless for any other application

OHHHHHH okayyy, I had one that was old from grandpa traded it in for reel trade in at BPS. Thats what the gf was always use to using, but i convinced her to a spinner lol. I will have to keep this all in mind now for when talking about spin cast n spinning reel lol.

Thank you!

OK Let try that again.

Here is what the two reels look like. The gold and black one is spincasting and other is spinning.

hahaha, at least it worked the 2nd time for you hehe :p That is exactly what I thought than after it was explained. I thought the the spin cast, was just a different look to spinner or bait cast haha. Good to know there is another type of reel out there now haha.

A spincast is on every kids combo out there. just go to Can. Tire and have a look.

The reason that spincast is so popular with kids is because it is less likely to get tangled. The front cup holds the line and feeds it out evenly and guides it in.
