wrong season?
what patterns work?
dry flies an option any specific time of year?

Umm I would erase that thought from your head. Probably wouldn't be able to hook one on a fly unless you know a great bread/rotting fish fly recipe. :D

If you really wanted to catch a catfish on the fly I would use a fly hook and put a piece of worm on it. Let it sink and then wait. More waiting. More waiting. KEEP Waiting. More Waiting. Wait! Was that a bite? Set the hook and get in for the fight of your life. :D

i have caught many cats with a bobber--3 ft of line and a worm--i am thinking a san juan worm? split shot line? maybe strike indicator---this method must have a "fly" version

Sucker meat or worm imitation. If the water is more than about 9 feet deep then just go with regular gear, as it's too hard getting a fly near the bottom.
