Got this Brand new CP last december from UK, landed cost to my home was less than CA$60 after winning bid on Ebay. The manufacturer refuse to sell to North America in bulk, They have a hard time making them enough to sell in UK. Regular price sold in UK was 30 pound. I was told they were selling more than 1000 per season in UK
Similar to Ikonix brand name but named Marco Cortesi. Spins can vary from more than 3 minutes to around 2.5 minutes. Tried this reel on calmer flow at smaller creek and no issue on start up. I am also using a 12 lb floating fluroscent line from Siglon which might help a lot, Have to put drag to slow down the drift many times since the start off was smooth.
Once resonalbly price Centerpin is accessible to everyone, argument will stop on which type of fishing reel will work best .
The hard part of Pinning was learning the Wallis cast. I want to get the hang of it for the long term application, I used to side cast, after mastering the walis cast after many hours of practice and being patient, It felt so good to learn something new. I am now ready to get into Fly fishing.
There are no complicated parts in a Centerpin except the mould and the bearings. One main reason it should not be expensive to make them in Asia. If we notice the parts inside a spinning or a baitcasting reel, there are more parts to make and to assemble. If they can sell a Daiwa Regal reel with 10 bearings for $25, no reason to sell a Centerpin reel for more than $50. Since the volume sold are still not in millions , price are still not the lowest compared to spinning reel. I have the option to upgrade the bearings to ABEC 7 if I want to in the future since the bearing size was also available. NO reason to change the bearings now since it works perfectly in all local river system.
I believe Centerpin with Drag will be the future, Still very expensive to own one as of now, it will be sold cheaper for sure, just matter of time. Fly reel with nice drag system were being sold for around $50 on Ebay.
Somone at Kijiji has been selling the Alvery brand for $100, while Okuma (made in Thailand) Aventa was selling for $150 + tax at SAIL. Rapala has brought to market a Centerpin for under $200.
