Channel Catfish Spot Near London Ontario?

Hi Everyone Can anyone recommend the best place to go that close to London from Channel Cats? That can Also be caught from Shore with out a need for a boat.

My guess is the best bet would be the Thames River... Or if you wanted to drive a little further, the Grand R.

There are not very many in the themes and you cant eat them. Any Place on the grand that is good.

I just checked the SW Ontario reports section. There are several reports of good channel cat fishin' in Dunnville.

I fished there all weekend and I didn't catch any cats, others did though. I did get alot of drum.

During the summer months i catch tons of channel cats in Port burwell its not too far from london and you can shore fish cats all the way down big otter creek

im close to the grand river and i see guys pull out massive ones just using ball o worms n a phatty hook 15 pounders easy.. one guy got one that was atleast three and a half maybe four feet.. im not big on cats but it was huge for the grand i thought.. good luck! :smile:

I should think any fish up steam of London would be fine to eat. Also if you hit the Thames River in the spring as soon as the water is down after ice out it is great catfishing. I was catching 10 to 18lbers with worms!!, it would be even better fishing with cut bait.

Dunnville all the way, weapon of choice a Stinky old nasty liver that has been left out to boil in the sun for a couple of days..Or an old piece of shrimp..

The thames River in London Ontario does in fact have quit a few catfish, Ive had great luck this year. I fish around storybook gardens area. I use whole wheat bread mostly, or chicken livers.

Give'r a try man, they don't get that big I guess......2 footlong or so.

I have caught huge cats on the other side of the bank near springbank just below the byron bridge (near the fire station). just use small diachi or any small trout hooks with a few split shot weights (no float) with worms. Just cast out and let it sit on the bootom, than set your rod down ion a stick or something and watch the tip until it starts to shake. The only problem is their is alot of other fish that will take the worm (carp,suckers,bass ) but it is still a good spot.
