I was just thinking, what if I was fishing in a closed section for chubbs, and accidently hit a trout, and release it of course, would this be considered legal? Your thoughts please.

Technically yes it would be legal as long as you released the trout as quick as possible. (without removing it from the water for pics, etc) The chances you are really fishing for chubs is pretty small though and personally i would hold off until the river is open for catching other species. just my 2 cents

I think the same applies when your fishing in the spring time and and OOS BASS decides to bite your hook

As long as you release it i am sure it is ok . just don't make it look like you were fishing for the that fish.

I think if the river is closed that means closed for any reason. If i was MNR and I showed up and you tried to tell me you were fishing for chub, w/ a 13'5 foot rod and some roe I would take everything you had and fine you just for trying to "pull the wool over my eyes". But maybe it would work? but I don't think so.

LOL nice one, i was thinking of taking my son fishing with a 6' rod, spinning reel a hook a sinker and a dew worm, just for fun. maybe humber, I certainly would not fish the upper credit or area's zoned for single babrless hooks, I actually plan on fishing for chubs. Which I believe is legal to catch and use for bait purposes. I would catch and realease but, I appreciate your input here guy's thanks.

Was not trying to harp on you, Just don't risk the fine!!! I will say I am jealous that my sons not fishing yet

Just be careful because some rivers or sections of some rivers are regulated as fish sanctuaries as soon as the trout season closes which means it's closed to any and all fish species.

I believe the upper Credit river is regulated like this.

Also, according to the CO / MNR you are not permitted to target a fish out of season regardless of your intentions to release it. So legally you can't go trout fishing when the trout season is closed just because you don't plan on keeping any.

However, you can legally fish other species (like chub) in sections of rivers closed for trout. But if the CO thinks you are not fishing for chub amd you intentions are to fish for an out of season fish species, you could lose your gear and leave with a heavy fine which you will need to go to court to fight. Not sure if it's worth the risk.

I hope that helps.

Thanks guy's, better to be safe and wait, maybe hit etobicoke creek for suckers, and chub then, I don't think there are trout there.

Wise decision ! In the rivers where I fish you are not allowed to fish for any type of fish until the trout season opens.

I started teaching my son at about 18 months, but he was walking early like 8 months so he was ready had good balance. By next season he was pretty good, as soon as we hit a fish he would grab the net and pliers. now he can reel in about 4 lb fish, but like I said before he has a short attention span so he will fish for 15 in then the rest of the time he is happy playing with the water. Have fun with the little one teaching him, I try to keep it under an hour so he doesn't totally get bored.
