hey guys, I'm looking for a quality combo preferably medium/ medium heavy, with a good reel at 100 bucks or less, i have looked at the quantum q-vex and at the pfleuger president combo, i am also considering the simax rods, i can get one at about half of my budget but preferabely a combo, i like the abu garcia orra s combo, amazing reviews but no shipping to canada. Any help is appreciated, thx.

IMO in most cases your better off buying the rod and reel separately. If I had 100 dollars to spend id get a Fenwick eagle gt 6'6" mh paired with a shimano sienna 2500 or 3000. This will bring you to a total of around 90 bucks plus tax.

If u could raise your budget to 150 or 160 though, you could get a quite a bit better rod and reel. At that price point id be getting a fenwick hmg paired with a shimano sahara

ya i was thinking of getting them separately, so far the best rod I've heard about and has amazing ratings is the simax line of rods, i could get one for 60 plus tax, one combo caught my eye with very good reviews for 99 bucks, its the Abu Garcia Orra S combo, looks god i can get it for 120 taxes and shipping in, i got a couple free tickets to the sportsmen show tomm. so ill look around there too.

My buddy had that combo and the rod is sh-t . Buy rod and reel separate. Try and up your budget a bit. You could get a Abu veritas and shimano sedona for around 150.00.

If you are sold on the combo they sell them at sail for 99.00 bucks save yourself shipping fees.

really all the reviews say 5 stars!! are you sure were talking about the same thing? I didn't see them at sail last time i was there, i did see a cardinal combo but not this one.

Sail in Burlington, was there a week ago, they had them. The guides on his first where not aligned properly and returned it, second rod had issues with the reel seat threads ( would not turn down past second thread ) returned it and the last one he had was ok, but the 4th time out broke the reel seat. He was only using it for pitching small crankbaits. It broke trying to reel in a 2-3 pounder.

these reviews you speak of are from where...Abu's site? I would take that with a grain of salt my friend. If you notice the specific rod is not avaiable to buy as a rod only.

I am in no way trying to bash Abu, I use several of there products and love them, just feel for your money you might be better buying seperate and get something really nice. Again i think you could get a Abu Orra S reel and Abu Vendetta or Veritas for around 150.00, that way you can also choose the size of reel you want. I believe the combo is a size 20 reel only.

I have no experience with Rapala gear so will not comment on there stuff.

Also the setups "Hamiltonangler94" suggested are also very nice for the money. To be honest there is a lot out there for 150.00 that would be great setups.

Again only suggetions my friend

thank you for the suggestions, i saw the reviews on the abu site and dicks and walmart. Maybe the store quality is bad and the online quality would be better? I am thinking of getting a Simax Exclusive, (60 bucks, on sale) original price is 120, and then either a pfleuger trion, president or orra s reel?

i think I'm gonna go the buy rod and reel separately way, ill buy a rod now then save up a little for a good reel, did your buddy like the reel on the combo or not? looking at the pfleuger president reel or orra s but a little bit of crap reviews thrown into the orra s, what would you guys recommend as a reel?

He loved the reel, i also have a Orra S 30 on a setup and like it alot, very smooth for the money casts great and a good drag system.. But there are alot of good reels at the price range $65-75.00. So i guess it comes down to personnel choice. But maybe take a look at he shimano sedona's and sahara's.

cheers

ok, i will have a look, thanks for your help, probably gonna grab the orra s30 then in a few weeks, ill see whats on sale then.
I think in March Bass Pro usally has a big sale, maybe check that out.

Cheers.

You will not go wrong with simax! I have two wizards and just recently sold two locas simply because theyre one piece and i couldnt get around with them too well.! Pair that with a black max and youve got an awesome combo for about 120... If you really want spinning get the spinning series simaz wizard with a shimano sienna. Awesome combo

cant go wrong with a Sienna. The drag works and that's all I really worry about with a cheap reel.

ya ivw looked at the sienna but the abu I'm looking at is "braid ready" orra s might consider the orra sx but its a little pricy at 100, well see what i can save up lol. I think i am gonna get the Simax exclusive, regular is 120 i can get it for half price right now. Then later ill see whats on sale out of the reels, I've heard the pfleuger trion and president are awesome reels but a bit on the heavy side. I don't want a caster, have one, just don't use it as much as a spinning, i like spinning more but can cast further with a good caster and more accurately when I'm fishing for strictly bass or pike.

the only thing with the sienna, with mine, i found after a couple years of light use, the reel is not smooth, almost as if the gears of the bearing have gone, makes a grinding sound when i reel in now, and yes, i take my reels apart every 6 months to clean and lube
