Hi all
When the new OFF begins I hope there'll be a section for this.
The deal this week comes from CT. It is a pair of Uniden 2-way radios with a 22 km range for $19.99. Check CT flyer page 13. I don't see any reviews on the item so I cannot say how good they are. But Uniden has made radios for emergency services for years.
These radios are great for meet ups with OFF members or you can use them with friends. I've used them for car to car communication while going camping. And have proved to be invaluble in emergencies.
All of my 2-way are the older 3 km range with 14 channels only. The newer ones are up to 22 channels and much longer range.
From my experience owning these brands, my rating is as follows:
1. Motorola
2. Cobra
3. Panasonic
4. Audiovox
5. Sylvania
ALERT: With these and most 2-way radios, the range is under ideal coditions. That means in a open field or when one of you is up high on big hill. But under normal conditions you can expect a max range of 75%. I'll get a pair some time this week and do a range test and follow up. If you plan to meet up with other members of OFF this is a great way to find them on a river, lake or where ever.
