I got a chance to fish with Dec Hogan last year. Really genuine down to earth guy, who is super knowledgeable and passionate about fishing. Learned a lot.

I generally use what's handy, its amazing how stuff just piles up.
Dec was in town for the Clave last fall and he took a few small groups out. I kinda just fell into the opportunity.
I've been fly fishing for 20yrs or so and spey fishing for 5 or 6. Its amazing how much you can learn from people like Dec. Locally, I would suggest looking up guys like Rick Whorwood,Bill Katrauras,John Vaulk, Jin Lee, just to mention a few of many great fly fishing, spey fishing and fly tying personalities.

Got to meet Dec at the spey clave on the grand river this past year. Awesome guy. And no matter how many fish hes seen, he still gets super excited when a steel gets landed. Hard to find a better type of dude to fish with.
He also let me mess around with a couple of rods he was using. Helped me decide which one was right for me. I have nothing to say but good things about him and any work hes doing. He deserves all his success.
and for those who know, that reach mend he does lol. it works though!
