Honestly I think these are great for Ice Fishing. As for a Kayak, I talked to a lot of pro kayak anglers and they prefer the Lowrance/Hummingbird screen gps/chart plotters.

Iv seen one in action before.
Those are meant for shore fisherman.

Battery life is about 4hrs of continual use. If you have a boat, why buy that puny thing? The battery is way too short. Buy a battery pack and get a conventional sonar.

I have a humminbird portable fish finder. If you're worried about depth, it goes down 240 ft. I believe the exact names is humminbird 140cc portable fishing buddy. It just clamps vertically or horizontally to a piece of wood or the side of a canoe/kayak.
