Hey guys,

New time poster, but long time lurker. Looking for other fishermen who fish steelhead in the downtown Toronto area. Let's share spots, and talk fish, by PM of course. I was in the area yesterday and spotted some decent size (18"+) steelies along with a few small browns (12"). Some spots have hard accessibility and difficult to find parking so let's try to help each other out!

Welcome to the forum McFly!

Good eye.
I have a hard time spotting bows in the river, I usually can see them in creeks.
Hey Instapump, I know you from another forum!

welcome, are you in downtown or along the outskirts of T.O
Not sure, I consider any area with a great view of the CN Tower downtown lol

yeah i was surprised lol ^ only one trib in downtown...so we all know where it is
Not really talking about any trib, more talking shore fishing lake ontario. Wondering if there's any fish at the islands if I've seen them near the core.

you saw browns and bows just cruising near the shores of lake O, near downtown!!!! this is getting very strange, yet interesting at the same time, all the trout should be coming up rivers this time a year, just saying....

I saw a few flocks of bird that were fishing in the same area so perhaps there's a food source that the bows are tucking into before going up streams? I'm new to Steelies/Salmon so not too sure about their behaviour. Since it was crystal clear water, I could see they had interest in my roe bag but wouldn't bite. A few touched it with their noses though. And circled it about a dozen times. Wasn't the best roe though, as I save the good stuff for up north :p

Funny thing is, if the water was murky, there's no way I would have even known they were there or were having so much interest in my bait!

Hey Mcfly. I live downtown as well and have fished downtown, though not for trout. I'd be willing to meet up sometime. I haven't been for a few weeks but there's several spots right downtown that look promising.

Mcfly. If they don't bit the change it up. Crush one of the eggs or throw a bleeding crawler.

Obviously some Steel hang around in Lake O til the spring run.
If you're talking about tribs within sight of the CN tower I would mention that you can see the tower from the Skyway Bridge in Hamilton and also from Beamsville on a clear day. LOL.

Alfie.

are you sure you haven't mistaken these fish for suckers or carp, or chub? his is very weird for bows and browns to hang around near shore and see you and have interest in your roe bag, sounds like suckers to me, but i haven't seen it, so i can't really say anything if they really are bows, then you are one lucky guy, lol.

I've seen few bows and mostly browns around the area. This is the best time to target browns actually.

browns are spawning right now, you've seen browns in downtown, not near any trib? browns should be in full force spawning right now, don't know what they are doing outside the tribs.
