Downtown Toronto Steelhead

Plenty of browns downtown. A lot of them go back to wherever it was that they were stocked, which is often not a tributary.

Hey Everyone,

Also new to the forum. I live right downtown (Quens Quay). I do a lot of walking and staring into the water (odd habit of always looking for fish..) I have yet to see anything other than Carp hanging around near the shore. How sure are you that these were browns/bows? Would be very exciting to catch a bow/brown right downtown..

Trust me, the water clarity was so good you could see about 8' deep to the bottom and pick out pieces of candy wrappers and pop cans sunk to the bottom. There was also minimal flow of water in the little lagoon I was at, it must be sheltered from the main waves.

The browns were identified by size, girth, colour, and spots. The bows were ID'd basically because they look like a chrome bow, and being 18" size they were easily seen. Trust me, I've caught my fair share of chrome this season so far. I spot them everywhere, especially in the east tribs.

I work right at queens quay! Try fishing the main river downtown, you'll find a lot of steelies and maybe if your lucky, some browns

I didn't know there were steelheads in downtown. Where exactly did you see them?

Yeah, I should probably take up the challenge. By main river are you refering to the Don?

I had a feeling you'd day the Don haha. But no, the don will have only chinook, maybe some steelies but its CRAZY shallow and filthy.

The other big, main GTA river...has tons of steelies and browns. Mostly steele, I got a few on spoons back in feburary/march of last year. This time, they should be coming in thick.


The open all season area on this main river is huge too, Ive actually only ever fished the open all year section and produced good numbers, and some chrome steelies....and suckers...tons and tons of fat suckers lmao. They were hitting my glow in the dark spotted pink/white cleo like animals back in the spring

downtown has decent amount of bows...just know where to look. any GTA trib has runs but nothing compared to east & west tribs of course.

Aha, I follow now. I guess I didnt consider that "downtown" right off the bat. Must be a bad habit I started to develop since I moved down here; considering north of Bloor as "up north" and west of Dufferin as "out west" lol. I never realised how close it is to the donwtown core come to think of it. Will defeinately give it a try this year. Il have to try my luck at fly fishing this river also.
