Hello,

I have been vertical jigging for lakers using my electronics with a white tube for years and have had great success but all the buzz these days seems to be about drop shotting. What is the advantage? Also could i not just tie a tube on the bottom of a drop shot rig instead of the weight. Thus having 2 baits say 4 feet apart.
Let me know your thoughts

Thanks

Curtis

you could but if you're talking about ice fishing, you have to remember the fact that, 2 hooks mean your chances increase 2 times for hooking the edge of the hole, it sounds minor but dang I've lost some nice whities like that! If i use a tube i just put the tube on, same for spoons, jigs, etc. The only time i use a drop shot rig for lakers is for a set line, (small treble or hook and split shot 12" up)

Depends what time of year... spring time trolling warm bays and summer time hitting the deep ether jigging or deep trolling... A worm on the drop shot is good.

i use the double rig for perch and it works excellent, ill use a spoon on the bottom and a bug imitator on the top and certain fish want the bug and some will want the spoon. however for lakers i don't see it being useful, when a trout is on your bait there is nothing in the world between it and what it thinks is its next meal, i would imagine 99 percent of the time your going to get bit on the bottom tube.

a interesting approach would be what the musky guys do on st clair, you strap a rod in on the deck and let the waves do the jigging, they pick up the fish that are in a super negative feeding mode that want that bait almost still. works as 1-2 punch.

Drop Shot, Drop Shot Drop Shot!! It’s been a craze for awhile and a lot more popular for Bass and panfish. I still believe Lakers, pike and species that like faster moving baits will still love body baits or fast moving plastics. But it still doesn’t rule out someone catching a laker with a drop shot rig but the percentage of you catching a laker on a tube or a swim bait is far higher than catching one on a drop shot rig. You will find the drop shot rig is a very fineness technique when nothing else is working. A drop shot rig is all about feel, so smaller diameter line, longer rods with a fast taper tip is needed to work the bait while not moving the weight.
