If you don't want to miss a good run. 2 days after a good rain...where? take your pick....every trib will have 'em running. If you're able to make it...there's no guarantee you will catch one. Plan thoroughly if you're driving 2-3 hours from where you are. One hint...if this forum has very low activity...guess where everyone is? My son goes to school 1 minute walk from a trib...everytime he sees cars on the ditch...that's what's up.
Multitasking! He can learn and keep an eye out for cars on the ditch from his classroom window!

I think too many think they can learn how to fish by reading online forums. You are not going to learn what a hit looks like, when a river looks mint, or how to fight a fish by reading. When I started float fishing last year I read lots, in fact I still do. However, I learned way more by going fishing. Best bet to get to the fish before they are gone is to go to the river every chance you get. You might be early, but then again... you might not be. You want to be on that hot bite before word gets out and you are fishing shoulder to shoulder.

fishing shoulder to shoulder with arrogant fisherman is not my cup of tea.

ive literally got to a spot at 5am, secured my spot while its still dark out (fishing 5 ft from my buddy) and some jerk off will come stand between us...its the most pathetic "fishing" ive ever been part of.

its sad, all these grown men go to these spots to try and literally snag a hen to get their roe. there has to be a better way...

You gotta love the fights and the skirmishes though. It's one big spectacle that has always been attached to salmon runs. when it gets a little crowded, i will bushwhack my way to a better pool. Too much water to fight over one pool. words to live by during the salmon runs...."protect yourself at all times".

true, but there is such thing as giving space, and some people just are too *(&* to find their own spot, damn scavengers!

Cant wait to check out my usual huron tribs. i think this is the year i finally make a trip to a lake o trib. i know its going to be busier and such im just wondering if its worth the zoo because you all seem to catch more than i do (not a big deal if i get 1 or 2 a season i am one happy guy!!!!!)

I live closer to huron as well and fish salmon on lake o and huron. I guess it depends what you're into, lake o runs are certainly larger and the average fish is bigger. Lake huron fish are much better table fare but the runs and fish are smaller.

during salmon run..."giving space" get's thrown out the window...gloves are off....i usually have upto plan E....

Just a reminder to anyone who may be thinking about it. If you happen to be so lucky to catch a fresh run of fish, DON'T start running around online posting about it. There are others who work hard to find fish and once there's a sniff of fish online it'll bring the masses out. It happens every year anyways but it really doesn't help you or anyone else. Keep your yap shut!

Been fishing southwestern ontario for a good chunk of years, never signed up to a forum. Glad to see people keep hush hush about the runs! Anyone here fish East Tribs/Oakville?

Cant wait to get out there soon, I actually put the name of the river, but then quickly edited after reading the rules!
