***Early August Salmon Run Confirmed***

I don't get why people love fishing in the rivers for em. Why not fish for them from the pier where they're chrome fresh, fight like crazy and there's less loogans.

Visited a pier yesterday, hoping to see less people because it's weekdays but its the same, shoulder to shoulder, I spend hour to watch if somebody had a bite but I get bored nobody making any action, just steering its other, because it looks like more people than fish getting in, and their line almost look like a barricade already, so many lines in the water. Worth driving a few kms more to be in a better and quite place where I can enjoy the beauty of fishing this strong fish.

i was at fav West Trib. no action. water was choc milk.little high. I didnt see a single fish jump. I will head out there again this week end.Insh

Hey everyone, new to the forum. Huge into trib fishing around the Barrie area. Dad and gramps passed down all the knowledge, lovin it!

With all this rain we got tonight...I couldn't resist putting a line in the water tomorrow morning. I'll let you know how it goes!

Bring on the run!

U guys have to do like me. Fish for resident Brookies. I literally slayed them today. Caught abt 15 and abt 10 broke off. Would be fishing for the migratory ones when they are in the rivers for more than a week.

Same here. Yesterday's long trek to a new place I researched was pretty good. I'm still in awe how fun small creeks can be. We should exchange notes or tag team a place or two

For sure not a problem.

Saturday proved dis-appointing, I thought with the rain and cooler EVENING air temps we woulda seen something moving up.

I went 0-2 but only fished a total of maybe 2 hours, we also go to the river's edge a bit late (9am) had the kiddies with us.

I'll withhold where and any description of surroundings, but I witnessed multiple fish caught at mouths of tributary creeks/rivers. There was even a brave lady-trooper with a Dora kid fishing rod trying her luck. My 4 year old daughter recognized the gear immediately

Open water vs a small body of water

Having fished both, I can tell you pier fishing is about the open water fight, the 100 yard dash, beaching the fish ect. Requires alot heavier gear (as far as I have used and seen people using) also the suspense of not knowing if there are fish around

River fishing is more about the technical battle, the fish could be feet from you when you hook and still take 15 minutes to get it in, also using alot lighter line (5-8lbs) to catch a 20+lbs fish, its a rush. 99% sight fishing, you know the fish is there, just how to present ur bait and the right timing to set the hook.

To each their own, I respect both side of it as they both have their pros and cons.

Just like some people like basketball, some like golf. When a basketball fan makes a statement against golf, feathers get ruffled.
