Ok, so the wife stopped by Lebaron's and got me an 8'6" Okuma Celilo. i'm targeting trout for the remainder of the year. it says 8lb to 20lb line. i wonder what's the best line for this rod if i'm targeting mainly trout. And i'm still looking for a decent spinning reel to pair with this. The reason I'm asking is i've always used 6'0" to 6'6" rods for any fish. this will be the first time i'm handling a longer rod.

seems like a pretty stiff rod for trout considering most float rods are 4-10lb line, wondering if it'll protect lighter leaders, but myself i've always been partial to pflueger spinning reels, i would go for 8lb line and try a light leader, if anything it'll be a good rod for salmon

I'm not an expert on equipment, but I would say the lowest you can get away with, so 8lbs. But if it's just your backing and you plan to tie on a leader, then it won't matter too much.

I typically run 6 or 8lb for trout straight with no leader. The highest I've used on a regular basis was 10lb. I tried some really old 15lb line that I found in my dad's old tackle box once for resident browns, and it worked even though the stuff was like rope (experimenting is a great way to learn about fishing...).

True but most of those float rods are much longer, some of them 13' or more.

yea, i have a 9ft spinning rated for 4-8lbs

judging from the looks of it...it's tip is really thin and also it says ultra light action. i guess i just have to try it out. my main line would be 10lb. (because that's what i have at the moment and 6lb fluoro. thanks guys. big help.

That is a really weird rod lol. 8-20 lbs is a huge range for line and in what world is 8 or 20lbs ultra light?

My mistake, the label says, medium action...the 7' is the light action. just says ultra sensitive. Btw, had a tip from a friend to pair this rod with Shakespeare agility spinning reel. be using 10lb. mono and 6lb fluoro on this one.

Very good way to learn. Might put on to fish you wouldn't have caught traditionally.

finally completed my gear. 8'6" celilo medium rod....

8lb green moss monoline (trilene) 6lb fluoro leader...lindy marabou jig.
