Early spring pike

I am planning to aim for the early spring spawning pike. I did try it last year around Duffins creek marshes without much of result. Either I did it to late after ice melted or I am missing something. Later in the season area did provide decent piking action. Zone 17 has pike open year round. I would really appreciate the tips and maybe some areas to scout for the early hungry fish.
