I don't know anything about the eastern tribs but if you want to ge out next summer I can take you to spots I know on some of the rivers I fish

i see pics of people fishing small rivers and streams all summer for resident fish--is that only in postcards? lol

Postcards from BC.........lol. Can you see them catching suckers?...........lol. On a fly.........lol. We gotta find some cold spring fed streams somewhere close but it won't be a trib.......lol.

i dont know enough about the eastern tribs i spend most of my time on the upper grand and a few smaller rivers i would say if you go to the headwaters most likely have resi fish

Of course, the next challenge is finding public access to headwaters....

you can find catfish, bass, suckers pike and even the odd carp in some of the tribs, from what ive seen atleast

so resident trout in ontario are just postcard stuff? wth did i get a flyrod for??will panfish take dry flies?

i fly fish all the time for trout in the summer i dont know about east of Toronto but there are spots like i said i can take you out next spring and show you some spots

there all over i just know spots i go to have them im sure there all over you have to do leg work i have fished alot of spots and been skunked its hit or miss i just know spots west of highway 400

so resident trout are more likely further north as a rule?

Generally speaking yes. Resident trouts need cold water, so they're usually found near or at headwaters. The hardest part of finding resident trout is really looking for public access into the stream and making sure you don't piss off land owners.

Panfish can be a blast on a fly. A 3 or 4 wt is ideal for panfish. Dry fly, wet fly, streamer, foam bugs, almost anything goes for panfishes as long as they can put it in their mouth (they often also try to take something bigger than they can swallow)

There are lots of resi bows and browns, and if you look hard enough youll find some specks.
Smallies lurk around bigger pools with more structure for them to hide around i find.

You need to find the right creeks and rivers and some nice quiet spots where it doesnt usually get fished.

i know quite few creeks around oshawa that have some resident bass, pike, and the odd speckled trout. fall and spring there loaded with salmon/fall trout/spring. Panfish take small dries and wets. bass love woolie buggers
