I decided to go to Redhill. I set up just pitched my pack bait into the margin. In a short while caught a couple of commons and then I began to have difficulty hooking fish. There were fish in front of me and they were on the grits pack as soon as it hit the bottom. I tried a lighter weight and different hooks and hook link lengths but nothing helped. Just more frustration.
I finally went to a smaller hook size a 1/0 and pulled this little guy out.
Goldfish.
That's who were driving me crazy with their small mouths . So I decided to change tactics entirely and got out my 13 ft. Wunderpole. I had never fished with it before only it's larger brother the 20 footer. I put a dozen feet of 10 lb test mono on it and tied up a #6 Raven trout hook with 5 inches of 8 lb mono. A couple of split shots a small float and I was in business.
Some pieces of corn puff were my hookbait and periodically I would toss out a small ball of pack bait near my float. I began to land fish.
Then I hooked a fair sized common and he handed me my butt. The 8 lb hooklink broke so I tied on another. Too soon it was time to leave .
