Canada's world renowned one-of-a-kind Experimental Lakes Area (ELA) was shut down. The research being conducted in these facilities has been going on for over 40 years and has allowed Canadian and international scientists to make groundbreaking discoveries which have produced significant changes to the way many countries, including our own, manage the environment.
These changes have helped save our freshwater lakes, rivers, and streams. However, the effects of our activities on these ecosystems is still largely unknown, and there is no reason to suggest that our freshwater ecosystems are no longer in need of protection. In fact, many scientists argue that without research facilities like these, we may risk we may risk remaining ignorant of problems that will have long lasting and possibly irreversible effects.
The below article is very readable. As always, would love to hear your comments or opinions.
