Favourite Bass techniques and lures

I love spoons and spinners enough to devote a lot of time to making them....but I gotta say that soft plastics are king for bass. I haven't had a bad experience with any soft plastic. Just gotta rid em' and present em' properly and you're in the money.

....spooning for bass! i recall years ago in my youth Fishing Facts magazine, Al Lindner and gang, and they always sold Spoonplugs thru the mag, some old gent was the inventor... wonder if the Spoonplug still exists.... they also did a lot of backtrolling then with them

....so I bought my first Arbogast Jitterbug in decades, cracked it open and my first thoughts while groping it were "whoa, what a piece of junk!"

the box says "designed and test in the USA", the fine print said "Made in China". I didn't need to read that to tell that. It pales in comparison to my old American-made Jitterbugs. I was shocked how cheesy it was, how light it was, how awkward in the water, the crappy terminal parts....

I seriously believe Bass Pro's assorted line of plugs are better made than the Jitterbug. Yes, Bass Pro plugs are also Chinese but lordy, better quality all around compared to the 2013 Jitterbug. The Hula Poppers looked even more crappy. The paint job was horrific and very "offshore" looking.

A moment of silence please for a once proud plug. And at 9 bucks a pop (pardon the pun) who said offshore meant cheaper. I'd pay extra for the old tackle box stalwart for sure.

I'm not a fan of Jitterbugs, I much rather have a rebel pop-r... For the price of a jitterbug, I could have 3 rebel pop-rs...

Yah i picked up two jitterbugs ive been using them to no success. But my pop r is too deadly havnt gotten anything bit a rock bass on it bit have had some nice hits.. Gotta remember to wait a second before setting the hook . Lol i get too pumped and miss ehmm. Patience is key i guess ahah

A cotton cordell silver crankbait. I drag it along the bottom of a local creek all the time and catch tons of bass each year doing that.

Any plug that resembles a minnow is deadly on bass. It doesn't need to be a rapala. Rebels and daiwa diving plugs are just as deadly for half the $$$.

Big "O" crayfish or white pattern, cast or dragged behind the boat. Watch out for the hammerhandles, though. They like to steal them.

6lb mono and firetiger mepps aglia. Because when you toss it in the water that holds just about 5 species...you will most likely hook four(trout, lmb, smb & bullhead all in one pool) except the carp.

Lol. I caught a 20 lb Carp on a Mepps Black Fury 2 years agoin Bronte Harbor.

Like Alfie, I always have both. If I had to choose between the two... my money would be spent on the hula popper.
