Hey Guys, it's been a while since I've posted, but I had to share this beauty. I wish someone would've told me Walleye can put up such a strong fight, I would've targeted them a lot sooner.
So the story behind this Monster( to me at least), I was at Scugog Lake last sunday with a few friends. We decided to go up and rent a boat, try our luck with walleye and muskie, neither of which have any of us ever caught, so I was skeptical if my "research" was going to pay off.
Well it definitely did, and did it ever pay off quickly. We had only been on the water maybe 20 minutes, just getting a feel for the depth and structures in the water. I had a 1 oz Big hit Spinner bait on with the lifelike rock bass imaging on the blades. I casted a few times towards a few bigger weed beds, and then maybe my 10th cast I hauled out towards a transition spot between weeds and a rocky clearing, and my rod doubled over hard. I set the hook and all I could think was, Damn this is a really strong fish for a lake, this has to be a smaller muskie. I fought him for about 5 minutes, slowly getting more excited as I knew this had to be a first of a species for me, and finally he broke the water just before my buddy netted him.
I pretty much immediately fell in love with walleye because of this guy Lol. If anybody knows any decent lakes between Toronto and Cambridge for Walleye, let me know haha.

And for the walleye lovers, what lures do you find catch you the biggest eyes?

Nice eye! I use small jigheads with white or green twister tails, but I do my walleye fishing right below a dam in 30ft of water with a huge undertow, so it's alot different than lake fishing.

Very nice walleye, the biggest one I ever caught felt like a beaver. Due to a botched landing job, I never got to weigh the bugger, but he was in excess of 10lbs. Caught on a small mepps, I think it was #2, black, with I think red dots, in the fall. Mepps are deadly because if a fish hits one, it's extremely likely to get hooked, unlike a lot of other baits which may elicit a follow or strike, but not necessarily a hookup. Next to impossible to lose a fish hooked on a spinner as well (unless you beach it, it weighs a tonne, and decides to flop and break off your leader before you get a chance to weigh it #$@! )

Small ones can feel similar to a pike, but will often come in like dead weight as well.

Nice walleye!
where did you rent a boat from and how much does it usually cost?

I dont usually target walleyes but I have caught them on a crankbait before.

Stellar first fish - my biggest came from a river on a big mepps, blue/silver with the treble tipped with two white twister tail grubs

beauty for a first eye bud!

my first was about half that size. but my largest was caught on a double willow blade chartreuse spinnerbait just skipping it along top of some weedbeds where a river met the lake.
was targeting pike but got a surprise. never expected to get em in such a shallow area
who sais you need a boat for walleye ;)
