OMG, it is already August and I haven't been out serious fishing since May 24. Where does the time go.
Anyway, went up to the lake on the long weekend and launched the tinny. Had a little trouble starting up the 9.9, so after replacing the spark plugs, she fired up like new. Concentrated on deepest parts of the lake, weed edges, and any structure in between. I was using, for the most part, a 7foot medium spinning combo, 20# powerpro and and about a rod and a half length berkley vanish floro leader. My approach was dropshotting a 3inch gulp alive minnow, circle hook, two feet above a 3/8 ounce weight.
My intentions were to target bass or crappie. I got perch and gills on almost every cast! Those minnows sure are durable. I caught the biggest gill I've seen in my life, this thing was the size of a dinner plate easy. I was so impressed, I took out the camera, and the battery dies. Replace the batteries with new ones, dies again. Looks like something went poo-poo with my camera; sorry for the lack of visuals. After sifting through countless blue gill, sunfish, and tiny perch, I get a respectable 11inch crappie. Soon after, I get his identical twin, I invited them to dinner. These two were caught at about 7:30pm, I thought the crappie were moving out of the weeds up to feed so I was pumped. Dropped the line in and I get a hit like a ton of bricks and a short, drag peeling fight. Was simply a 2.5 pound smallie, but after playing around with panfish all day, this thing fought like a beast. Was great to get some fishing time in, this year is simply the craziest summer for me with alot of life changes. I hope to get out some more. Thanks for taking the time to read.
