First off hello to you all. This is my first post as I am new to this site.
Second an important report for all Gilford ice fishermen.
Sunday I hit the ice out of Gilford. I forgot my auger batteries for my electric auger.
I went looking for help asking a local hut operator if he could rent out a hand auger. The local operator offer a ride out on the ice for my cousins and myself for $20 which I said was fair...he then offered to cut us some holes at $5 per hole!!! I can understand that it has been a tough year for eveyone in business in the ice but $5 a hole is just stupid. He saw we were in need and took advantage of our situation just to gouge us.
He comes the IMPORTANT great news. I met the gentleman who runs the Blue ice report. What a true gentleman. He offered us a parking spot at his house by the lake for more than a fair price. He then loaned us his sharp manual auger for free for the day with out even collateral or a deposit. I can not say enough about his true class and kindness. I wish I could have given him a big bag of perch but alas we did not catch any decent sized ones.
We did manage a few surprise catches of huge smelt on spoons of all things. I will post some pics soon.
