Well I got out today and it was well worth the trip, as I landed my very first PIKE ever and I mean ever.
Today is the day I can finally cross one fish that has eluded me for a number of years and that fish my friends is the mysterious Pike. Alway heard that Muskies are a fish of a thousand cast but in my case this rings true for the PIKE. I've caught a number of Musky before in the awarthas but the Pike never has a fish been so mysterious and elusive.
So it started off like this, jumped in the boat and headed out on the lake the weather was great sun shining weather warm and a fishing rod in my hand what else can you ask for...So I found this nice bay point holding lots of floating matt in about 10 feet of water and looking really fishy.
Pulled out my favorite spinner a chartruce and white spinner with copper willow leaf tandem blades and knew it would catch me something. Tossed it out to the point of the matt letting it sink for a minute before burning that spinner in. Cast 1, nothing, cast 2 nothing this went on for about 7-8 more casts and my sprits started to sink but was not about to be defeated not by a long shot.
On the 10 cast however, wham like a ton of bricks, big smile light up my face as my fishing rod bent over almost to a breaking point. Man there's really got to be something big on the end and as the fight continued my excitement grew and grew. Then out from the deep jumped this monster of a fish a PIKE!, right there and then I knew I had to do whatever it took to land this monster. I mean this is the species of fish that has eluded me for so long, no escape for this badboy not on my watch.
Five minutes into the fight and several runs later I knew I was getting the better of him as strength began to waiver a couple more minutes and victory would be mine....Then it happened got him by the boat and netted the sucker. Sweet, weighed him and it was a whopping 25lbs nice that was like gravy, a pike and a big one to boot..
Then my wife nudged me and told me we reached our go stop,,,, Darn Iphones...
