Hey guys, going to scugog tomorrow for the first time time year with my dad. Super excited, weather is finally doable, no wind, rain.

Will be providing a report on the lake when I get back tomorrow, just set up my dad's new rod and organized the tackle box. Going to be hunting some pickerel, pike, muskie and walleye. (Darn bass opener is NEXT saturday lol, oh well )

here is some of the gear bought today, looking forward to using some new rigs and lures...should be fun.

Set up:

Boat: ---> 12ft inflatable w/ 3.5hp Tohatsu 4 stroke

Rods ---> Browning 7' Medium action 40lb braid 12lb fluro leader
Rapala Classic Trout 7'2 15lb braid 6lb fluro leader

Will try all sorts of set ups as far as lures, jigs and worms. Full report will be on tomorrow :)

Pickerel and walleye are the same fish.. lol. I am going there too. Maybe we'll bump in to each other on the water. Good luck .

illbe there sunday for musky. leave the 6 pound at home. usually lots of heavy weed and the water isnt clear at all, usually the walleye guys rip jig the weeds with twistertails on that lake. hard to troll or drift cuz of all the weeds. grab a couple heavy steel leaders if you plan on casting for muskie.

Woke up at 530am...got to the water and fishing by 7am.

Weather was cloudy, light wind (6-8km) chilly.

Took the boat to spot number 1, a nice grass patch just past the main channel. As bass is restricted, we were mainly targeting pike and walleye.

Lures ---> spoons red and white, 5 of diamonds yellow and five of diamonds green frog pattern all 3/8oz

SOMEHOW ONLY BASS HIT!!

we of course released them all soon as the hooks were out...but really? on red and whites NO HITS from anything but off season bass??

anyways, next week looks promising as we landed 3 smallies today, one of which I got on a jig was the biggest small mouth I have EVER seen or caught....tood bad we couldnt keep them, would have been gooooood eating lol. Oh well, regs are regs.

Only saw 2 other boats in my area (boat launch off Island road)

here is my huge small mouth...please dont hate thats its out of season, I would think walleye jigs and spoons would get hits from everything BUT bass

Yea, lots of bass in that lake. I'm planning on getting out fishing on scugog as soon as bass opens. I'm a little unfamiliar with the east end of the lake, but on the Port Perry side of the island the weeds are getting bad. The west shore is the worst, starting to get big patches of "lawn".

yep, thats scugog for you. Weeds are horrible, especially in late summer when they are full grown. I have only ever fished the north and west sides. North side gets pretty weedy because of how shallow it is there, max depth of 2.5m

I was up there on May two four weekend and I caught nice size perch, bass (released) and some nice crappie.. There was a lot of weeds everywhere i went, I can't imagine when it gets warmer and the weeds grow longer..

Went today on opener.

Got out on to the water at 7am, clear skies, water temp was 20...very warm, light to no wind.

Lots of boats, as they were holding a bass tourney.

Went to a the same spot as last week, tried a texas rigged green 4" worm with offset gamakatsu hook and black cone 1/8oz slip weight.

Nothing on the worm.

Tried crayfish, same rig...nothing.

Between me and my dad we tried green and black frog pattern spoon, yellow of diamonds, green, brown and white tube jigs, rapala 2-5 feet green/silver minnow and finally the red and white len thompson number 00

NOTHING!!!

the only time we got anything was on the red and white, I got a huge perch and right after a small SM Bass.

Even the fish finder wasnt ringing off the hook like last time.

Trued fishing close to shore, where the carp were JUMPING LIKE CRAZY...channel which is about 2.5 meters deep and all around from 1m to 3m water, weed beds, clay patches...everything.

Nothing worked.

Asked around, not many people got anything. The sun and clear water + warm temp for sure did something.

Left the lake around 1030am
