Yesterday I went out fly fishing for the first time. But it was not my first time using a fly rod, I practiced casting in my backyard.

We (myself and my mentor) used a small black and white fly and caught tons of brown trout. The biggest one was probable 16 inches and the smallest 8 inches.

We found that they really liked the white and it the fly had not white it was not successful.

My camera broke last week so I have no photos. But I am sure you all know what a small brown trout looks like.

Cheers.

That's awesome. I started fly long time ago, due to lack of sucess and good trout streams nearby mine have been collecting dust. I plan to pull them out and try for something even if it's panfish. Great to hear you caught browns. Congrats.

Small brows are gorgeous... I'm finding that typically the smaller the fish... the more amazing it looks. The colours are usually brighter and more crisp.

Anyway, I've never found smalll browns myself.

Sounds like a fun outing.

In my experience, the larger resident browns can be just as colourful as the babies.

The most brilliant resident brown I ever caught was also my largest. It was really stunning, bright yellow and golden with a fiery red top. I only have a blurry photo of me holding it up.
