My dad went to Dicks in buffalo last year and decided to buy himself a float rod and center pin reel since I had picked up the fly rod and took an interest to river fishing.

Some how through someones mistake at dicks he got a Sheffield 13'4 float rod and sheffield S-1002 center pin reel for $120 bucks. He tried it a few times but lost interest in the River scene, I stuck with it with the fly rod with limited success, between deciding on buying a new fly setup for steelheading since my old one was a white river combo crap. I picked up this Float/pin setup the first time this weekend at a trib out east and decided to give it a shot. To my surprise it was enjoyable, to the point it may even delay my purchase of a steelhead specific fly rod. Ive yet to catch a fish on it yet but the thought of no drag one on one fight has its allure...

i have to agree tight---the pin is fun to hook some meat....its like chumming the water with a line attached lol---wait till you hit a 20 pound salmon--it will tear your nuts off

You'll want to take out the drag off your fly reel once you fight your first steel on the pin. By the way, watch your knuckles
