WALKER, Minn. - An ice fisherman is dead and a second person hospitalized after an apparent buildup of carbon monoxide in their ice fishing shack.

Deputies were dispatched to a converted camper on the surface of Walker Bay on Leech Lake Sunday afternoon after a medical emergency call. They arrived to find four men in the shack, one of whom was deceased. Another man was rushed to a local hospital, then airlifted to Hennepin County Medical Center where he is currently being treated. Two others were treated on the scene and released.

The initial investigation indicates propane devices being used to heat the structure were not ventilated, and led to unsafe levels of carbon monoxide inside the structure.

An autopsy on the victim will be completed by the Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office.

It's sad to hear that happen to a fellow angler but it is avoidable. Great reminder, thanks for posting PUMP KNOWS.
