Guys,
Thanks for the addistance for the rod question I had.

My next acquisition will be a portable fish finder. I does not have to be portable as I can convert it into a pelican case and add a batter pack and mount (no problem what so ever), but more importantly I would like a unit I can use for both ice fishing and open water fishing. It will probably be used in a combo of 14' tinners, canoes and ice huts.

I am open minded but want to keep this reasonable as I am not sure if I'll even use it (after the buzz is gone).

I was thinking about the

Hummingbird 120 Fishing buddy (but looked like it could be a pain to carry around and use for hard water)
Hummingbird PiranaMax 240 or the 230 Portable
Eagle Cuda 242, or the 245DS Portable

Anyone else here use portable fish finders?

Thanks in advance,

John

I have the Hummingbird 120 Fishing buddy, its not heavy and easy to use. The downside is that you shouldn't really use it while going at speed as it might fall off. All the fish I caught last year I never used the finder, whenever I did we never caught anything or just perch. but its good too have for temp, depth, & structure info.

I haven't used it for ice fishing but it should work fine in that application.
