Adeline Park is located off of Cook’s Bay of Lake Simcoe. Right after ice melt, there is a fair run of panfish into these canals for a spring spawn. Due to its close location to the GTA, it is a very popular spot and there will usually be shoulder to shoulder fishing. The best times to go would probably be in the morning during the weekdays.
Frozenfire and I went to try it out on April 15 around 3pm. It was quite crowded and people were catching perch everywhere. Closer to 7pm there were some crappies caught but not many. I was able to catch an out of season large mouth bass under 2lbs in size. We decided to come back the next morning for another run.
On April 16, we arrived at Adeline Park at about 7am to be accompanied by three other vehicles. We used our ultralight set ups with small reels equipped with 4 lb test, slip floats, and plastic tubes on jig heads.
On my second cast, I was able to catch a crappie! My first one of the year/season, and it measured to be about 12 inches in length. I was quite satisfied and it was inspiriation for Frozenfire and I. He was able to catch many more. The average size of the other crappies were about 7-10 inches.
We fished for another three hours and called it a day. In the morning during the cold hours of the rising sun, only the crappies were in feeding mode, and most of the fish caught were slabs aside from the odd perch. As the sun came up and warmed the water, the perch and sunfish quickly overcame their sluggish state and were very aggressive. At this time, the crappies were mostly gone. We left at 10am. There were still crappie being landed, but definitely not like a few hours earlier.
Here are pics of the park and the many fishermen trying for crappie.
Here’s my big fish of the day. Pretty decent for cast number two and fish number one!
