Fishing for Gar Pike

Hey Everyone,
I am new to this forum but have been fishing all of my life. Recently upon fishing in a bay of of southern georgian bay I have noticed alot of gar pike in the shallows. I was wondering if anyone has targeted these fish before and if so, what presentation was used? Also im not sure if or when they are in season. I just thought that it would be interesting to land one of these bad boys.
