Hey all. I was thinking of doing so haliburton lakes for specs and splake. Is there anyway to find out if there is public access to lake short of driving all the way up there? I would hate to drive for 2 hours and fun the lakes are all surrounded by private property. Thanks all

There is very little, if any, crown land in the Haliburton area. But if you check the stocking list and MNR has stocked 'your' particular lake lately, then the chances are that public access is still permitted.

pm me, I know a few lakes with splake and public access - I know a couple with speckles which are accessible to public by ATV too

I scout lakes on the map then google Earth to find trails leading into them. Find a few you want to check out and look for snowmobile trails leading into them. Stocked lakes usually have public access somewhere. Have fun and fish shallow

From what my brother told me a lot of the lakes up there have private property surrounding it and he deals with disputes between owners and anglers all the time. I can ask him for some of the areas for you that you could go up into without a hassle.

Fished the area lots years ago, a sled really helps up there. The property my family owns there is surrounded by crown land but not all parts of the area have it.

I went to a small lake in Haliburton over the summer on a camping/fishing trip. SO MANY SMALLIES! It was literally 75 fish per day fishing off a dock with Mepps. Ton of fun with an ultralight.
