I read an article on WFN about some anglers keeping a logbook for their fishing spots to write short entries, including, good or bad, old or new. Details of weather conditions (cloudy, sunny, rainy, warm, cool, cold, etc.), time of day, water conditions (high water, low water, murky, clear), moon phases, tackle used, what was caught, what they were feeding on, what insects were flying overhead or swimming in or on the water. I think this is a great tool to see if there are patterns in your spots so you know when to go there and when not to go.

Any thoughts? Surely going to start one once I get out for Trout.

i had an app that does this, i never went back to it but it was pretty neat it even let you take a pic of the bait/lure you used to catch the fish, cant remember the name however

I always have my own doatang at home where iI write the date, who caught what, what was used and the location. Its more than worth the effort, its also a good feeling to write something new in there, put in more pages and review what I caught. Your book doesnt have to fancy but I suggest it to everyone.

I have a fishing log book too. Do not enter all weather details but time, date, fish size and location.

i have one i record water level, sunrise sunset time im fishing and temps theres lots variable but when you have something to compare to you have a better idea to expect

I've kept a journal for most of my fishing life, and have a cabinet full of old journals that I refer back to all the time. They have helped me develop specific patterns for certain conditions, and have made me a much better angler.
