Since Monday was such a beautiful day I couldn't help it but go out and catch some fish!
Me and my gf and her best friend headed up north to the muskoka lake area with our canoe at around 8:30. We arrived at around 10:30 and got the canoe out into the water in an instant!! I have never unloaded a canoe that fast before and was glad I did!
The weather was beautiful with clear sky'a and a nice breeze ever so often. At first all we can do was relax and take in what we were surrounded by, nature, and it felt amazing. The water was so clear you could see down at least 7-8' of water which made the day even better then it was.
I rigged up a wacky senko and fished around the shallow areas to see if there where any fish around there. My girl friend has a small hook with 1" gulp minnows on it to start the day with little fist too, but there wasn't, not even a rock bass or anything. Then after a few thought on the weather lately and how the water was cold to the touch and thought lets try the deepparts of the lake. I switched to a drop shot set up ( the only one I know for deep water conditions) and so did everyone else on the canoe.
Dropped the line in the water and I could see the soft bait wiggle as it heads down since the water is so clear. 5 ft......10ft....15ft..... Bam!! Fish!?... I set the hook. The fish pulls back and I was like "FISH!" as I reel in the fish does a jump!
"poop it's huge!" said my friend and the fight was on! It does a few for jump to show off how strong it was.
Finally I got it to the side of the canoe. Man was it huge. I'm thinking maybe 3lb? Felt like it. Around 16-18 long and it was a small mouth.
People that say small mouth fights like crazy aren't lying! They hit hard and fight hard! As we scramb to get the camera in our dry sack I'm holding the fish in the water by the lip so it's not out of the water for to long since I forgot to bring a net.
BAD IDEA!! And don't follow me in this example!! As soon as the fish regained a bit of energy it fights again swing around and out of my hand... I know I don't have photo of this fish but trust me on this one it was a nice fish
-ps the bass up here also has black dots on them. What are they and are they harmful to fish? Or people?
After that fish, it was around 12:30 and we headed back to shore for our picnic. Relaxed a bit and played in the water by shore was refreshing and got us ready to get fishing again.
This time we got our camera out and just wish the canoe won't flip this was around 140-2?
Got back out and caught some smaller small mouth, but then everything seemed a bit small after our first fish. but we took pictures of them still
Caught a few that might be in that 1-2 lb range.
Couldn't find where the bigger bass was anymore since I believe that small mouth hunt in packs, which made me kick myself for not fishing that spot more.
Left at around 6 and had a great time on the lake.
Also remember to put on sunscreen!! I got to excited and forgot.. and now have a terrible looking tan.. :/
Not to self ! Buy an anchor!! We had to paddle back to the deeper spots every so often cause there was small waves due to the breeze which did take alot of time.
*pictures will be uploaded when I get back from niagara! Sorry!
