Hi Everyone!
Glad to be here, coming back to fishing after a long pause!

I'm looking for a fishing rod to match up with a Pfleuger President 69xx (probably a 6940) for fishing pike, walleye and bass, wondering if anyone could recommend a good rod to combine with.
It will be an all-around rod to fish plastic salamanders to a Daredevyl 3 1/4" spoon.

Thanks in advance!

You cant really have a rod for all three species if you are looking to have the proper setups for each species. For walleye and bass I go with a medium action rod, though many prefer medium heavy for bass. For Pike I like a medium heavy as well. If you are just starting your rod collection I would go with a medium first because though it may not be ideal for pike and bass it will still be good enough to get by. Down the road you can pick up a medium heavy rod when you are ready to add another rod to the line up.

I agree with you, one rod for all 3 species is not ideal, but it's a budgetted start. I can always purchase a 7-footer (med-heavy?) for pike and use it until I get something shooter for ball and walleye.

Was also inquiring with the brands out there today. I havent purchased a rod in 15+ years and it seems there are a lot to chose from!
I was wondering if there are any specific brands that are best bang for the buck?

Get a 7 ft MH rod. Its very versatile. You may lose some sensitivity when trying to fish a bit of a finesse style bait like a drop shot, but you generally can throw many different key baits with medium heavy rod. I would suggest either a veritas by abu garcia. Very solid rods.

I cant suggest any rods as all of the rods I own are discontinued lol. Personally I began years ago with a single medium action rod and used it for a few years for all sorts of species. You can use it for anything from pan fish to pike and even carp. In my opinion the problem with your only rod being a medium heavy is that its ideal for some things but for other purposes its terrible. Fighting a 16" walleye or perch or smaller bass on a medium heavy is no fun, while they would all put a decent bend in a medium rod.

One option would be to spend 80 bucks on the veritas that alwayscatching suggested and getting a cheap rod from canadian tire for smaller species. I started off with the abu garcia specialist combo years ago, back then they would go on sale from $90 to $30 a few times a year. The reel is junk and can be tossed in the trash but the rod is surprisingly sensitive. This way for 110-130 you are set up with two rods that will have you covered. There is another topic on the forum that mentioned the Veritas is 84.99 at Sail and will be 15% off this weekend.

I find Okuma Celilo 8'6" Casting very versatile rod. Medium Action. I use it when spin fishing for steelhead, casting plugs for pike, fishing bass with senko. Only Rod I bring with me in case I feel the itch out of the blue.

I had a 7' mh that I bought from Walmart for like $50 it was a decent rod and reel, used it for bass and pike. My favourite however is my ultra light combo shimano Sedona reel and scimitar rod. I've caught pike, bass and walleye with this rod and it has never let me down.

Good choice on the reel. For the price, you'd be hard pressed to find another better. I own 3 myself (6925, 6930, 6935).
Like many noted above, 7ft Medium/Fast would be a good starting rod - with 8 Lb mono on your reel. You may miss out on some specific situations/techniques (especially bass fishing in cover, for example) but the setup should be good for 97% of your fishing needs.
My bread and butter setup is 6'-6" Fenwick HMG (M/F) with Pflueger President 6935 reel with 8Lb mono. I've caught all three species with ease using this setup.
