Hi, Ill be spending May two-four weekend fishing Shining Tree area. Never been to that area. Is it decent fishing? Prefer large pike. Any tips? Further south Ive had lots of success trolling with silver rapalla but change up here and there. Appreciate any help.

hey there.

if you are after pike between Sudbury and Timmins there is one lure that dominates more than any other, it's a bit pricy but nothing insane.

Moonshine Lures. there are smaller and bigger ones as well as fluttering ones (trout)...you want the heavy ones. 1/2-3/4 oz.

The glow in the dark paint on those is something else, and the pike up their just love em...20+ a day with ease, just make sure that you have a leader or really thick mono/floro so you don't lose your 7.99-8.99 lures.

I had good success with the "wonderbread" color...white with the mixed colour dots.

I didn't find a lot of really big pike, most of them were 5-10...so hopefully you can have some luck in the spring, I went in early fall.

get yourself a daiwa suspending plug. make sure you have wire leaders as pike tend to swallow them but very effective on slow retrieve. I would suggest you let the lure sit for a good 1 minute before you start your slow retrieve.
