Hi everyone,

Every year I go fishing at Algonquin Park and absolutely love the experience. There's a great river by Mount Forest which I had access to from my friend's cottage (before he sold it). And occasionally I would even go to a private pond for some easy catches with friends (until they shut down).

All that said, this year I would like to go fishing more often. I live near 401 and Mississauga Rd. My goal is to find 1 or 2 fishing spots that I can drive to in about 1-1.5 hours. It would be a huge bonus if the water was safe enough so that I can eat the fish :)

I know some places will be private, others require a boat/canoe, and a few that I can cast from shore and still real in a nice catch. I'm open to all 3, however will probably be most excited about a public location where I don't need a boat to go fishing.

Thanks in advance!

Can fish the Credit river in Mississauga, need to check the regs to make sure you are allowed to fish in that area. Can get busy in spring/fall when salmon/steelhead are running but close to where you live.
There are some other rivers in Oakville to fish, Bronte/16mile too, depends what fish you are targeting.

There is too many places to name that are within a 1-1.5hour drive from where you are. The real question is what type of fish are you looking to catch and consume?

Bellwood lake , Guelph, and Island lake are a few you can fish off shore , rent a boat and are close to home.
