Flashers or no? Is it real important?

The salmon are starting to come in a bit closer and me and my ocean kayak are ready! Got the rod done up with 30 lb test and a few j plugs ready to go but I don't own any flashers.

Should I invest in one or do you seasoned salmon fishermen think I'd do ok without one?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Flashers are for trolling open water where you might need to attract them from longer distances. If you intend to chuck in harbors where they are concentrating, then you wont need it.

Trolling in my Kayak, but just about half a click or so off shore and then eventually up the river. I was told that they will hit a slow wobbling j plug even when they are not feeding.

I'm new to salmon fishing and didn't know if flashers were a must have or not. I guess I could try without and then maybe buy one later and give it a go.

Flashers? No. You can throw a hook with a piece of anything on it and they will hit it. I've seen and heard of ear plugs, pop tabs, heck even a colored trout hook lol. That's how dumb they are when they run..

staging process, they are bulking up for the upstream push...anything will do. any minnow immitation will be best. any other season flasher will be an advantage...but not now.

lmao I'd love to see someone catch a salmon on any of those in the river, that wasn't actually flossed.... I def. Wouldn't say they are dumb when they run as they only feed out of aggresion and it takes a lot to piss them off.

I remember when I was a kid before the run (which at the time I knew nothing about) people used the green fuzz off a tennis ball around the hook. I think I may try that for fun this year.
